THE PAST

I grew up in St. Charles, MO and attended Francis Howell North High School. During my years there, I was a member of the swim team for 2 years. However, after graduating things began to quickly go downhill. I began to party and eat a whole bunch. To further complicate things, as I was doing all of these things, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. Over the next few years I spent my time cycling between hospital visits, laying on the couch, drinking and eating a lot of fast food.

In 2003, I was once again admitted into the hospital for yet another Crohn’s episode, this time though I was going to be in for quite a while. During the routine process of checking the progression of the disease it was determined that it was at a stage that warranted surgery. With the date set, I went into surgery and celebrated my 21st birthday - 2 days post surgery recovery.
Taken at the end of 2004
I allowed this to further weigh on me and my life truly spiraled out of control as I lost all motivation to do anything and began to rapidly put on weight until I stopped weighing at 310 pounds near the end of 2003.

The awakening came at a New Years Eve party at the end of that year. While wondering why any girl wouldn’t like me, a good friend finally told me very abruptly that the reason was that I was “fat” and that I wasn’t at all attractive.

Through this harsh but much needed realization I was able to finally grasp the severity of my situation and decided that it was time to make a change. It took all of 2004 to achieve my goal but as 2005 rang in, I celebrated the New Year at a new slimmer weight of 200 pounds, and by the end of that year I was averaging 185 pounds.

THE PRESENT

Today, I am a Personal Trainer currently working at Wellbridge Athletic Club and Spa in Town and Country, MO. I have been in the Personal Training industry since October of 2005 and continue to grow each and every day. I absolutely love every day that I am able to get up and help someone else achieve their goals. I began my career as a trainer at 24 hour fitness where I studied and became certified through the National Academy of Sports and Medicine (NASM). I then continued my education by receiving a certification as a Corrective Exercise Specialist through NASM.

As well as being a full-time Personal Trainer, I am also a competitive amateur Triathlete. I got involved in the sport of triathlon as a goal from my initial weight loss. I got hooked into the sport as soon as I crossed the finish line of my very first race in Columbia,MO on a cold May morning in 2005. I finished my first race season with 3 podium positions in my age group out of 5 races. I repeated that trend with place in the top 3 of my age group in all 3 races the next season. Last season, 2007, I found myself in a new and more competitive age group but was still able to place in the upper echelon of my age group when I finished each race. The highlight of last year was most assuredly posting a 5:15 in my first full Half-Ironman race at Innsbrook, MO.

THE FUTURE

While I am unable to predict the future, I am able to plan for it. I plan to become a USAT Certified Coach to further progress my future as both a triathlete and a trainer. As for training, I hope to become a name known in and out of the fitness community as someone who is knowledgeable, successful and personable. As for Triathlon, well I hope to be able to compete in the Ironman World Championships within the next few years and would love to be one of the top athletes in my region if not more.
